Cats want attention when they want it. I think they also want and need to be worshiped in their cute little way. Well, it may not be cute as they are taking over! See World Cat Day! (happens to be today)
From a human perspective we like time-lines. We like history and memories that spiral us back to a precious moment. We need that as it defines our companionship and gives us a connection that deepens as time passes.
To appreciate the cats life-time with you, you can start a cat gratitude journal or memory book. The cat gets his/her worshiping and you get to be creative and have some fun! Zen win-win!
This can be in the form of a blog, a scrap book, cat journal/memory book or a computer file. There are so many ways to appreciate your cat and honor the moments that make your life together special.
- Start the journal when the cat is young and do a separate one for each cat.
- Write down the things the cat does, their quirks, mannerism, cute ways that make you smile plus nicknames, favorite toys and food. Add pictures, creative thoughts, etc.
- As years go by it is nice to see what changes and what stays the same. It is also a wonderful memory for the future as well.
- On a practical note, this can also be a good place to keep updated information on your cats health history.
- Add some zen moments or lessons that your cat has taught you. What are you most grateful for? What Cat Essences does your cat embrace?
- This can be a family tradition and a way for everyone to connect. It can be a community book that is left out in the open or private. Some people blog the whole cats life online. Do what works for you.
- Place a piece of yarn (color that represents the cat) in your journal or on your cat shrine as a reminder of the heart-string connection you will ALWAYS have to your cat.
It is important to start this early on. I unfortunately did this for one of my cats after she passed and it was hard to write. I also felt like I lost alot of memories that I would have had if I started sooner.
