Black Cat Countdown -Number 7
The Thinking cat?
Obviously the cat is not the thinker. I am. And unfortunately I do it too well. I love to think, ponder and over-think. I am in my head…. for real.
There’s a good reason why writing has a focus on being mindful and present in the moment.
I DO try my best to “un-think” or not-overthink but it is hard for me.
Speaking of thinking…I was reminded of a time, a few years back when my Black Cat Josi would cuddle up on the top of my head and purr. At first it was annoying because I couldn’t move and the purring was loud.
Over time I started to enjoy these bonding moments and I also started to get out of my head a little.
Well, considering she was sitting on the top of it, I really only got my thoughts out of my head.
I became present and enjoyed the different sounds of her purrs. I also started to focus on the warmth of her fur,the touch of her soft paws that would gently kneed my hair and again, I focused on just being present in the moment.
This became my routine for many years and I really started to understand how this little black cat could bring me mindfulness.
The interesting thing is it took no effort on her side and very little on mine once I let my thoughts go.
I think ( see, there I go again) that I need to find more inner purr, or a cat who can sit on my head.
When was the last time you let a cat help you release your thoughts?
Peace, Hugs and Purrs!
